Honourary Military Appointments
An important function of any Royal family is to retain a link between the public and the armed forces. After Edward left the Royal Marines, many people assumed that this would render him unavailable to take up the role of honourary military appointments, as it would give the public the wrong impression. Edward himself, reportedly, felt that it would be inappropriate. In many ways Edward has cleared a path for male royals not to join the armed forces.
These are honourary positions awarded by HM The Queen in consultation and under advisement with the regiment. The holding of these positions enable Edward to wear their uniforms at events where the regiment is to represented, such as war memorials or specific regiment functions.
