Interests and Activities
As a child, Sophie was very keen to pursue a career in ballet, but while she lacked the skill, she continues to have the passion and attends performances whenever she can. She is also an avid rugby enthusiastic and regularly follows the fortunes of the English and Walsh rugby union teams. Sophie took up real tennis as a sport to enjoy with her husband, today she regularly plays tennis to keep in shape. She also enjoys swimming and gardening.
Sophie became a competent skier during her time in the Alps. Edward and Sophie appear to take a week off every year to ski in the Alps. Sophie also snowboards, a sport that hadn't yet taken off.
The Countess of Wessex shares many of the Earl of Wessex, but this is not to say that she assumed many of Edward's interests simply to satisfy her husband. Her marriage to Edward has given, Sophie the opportunity to explore a whole range of various activities which previous she problem would have missed. This is especially the case with field sports, Sophie has been able to become a good horsewomen and regularly joins the Queen or Edward for their morning rides. Sophie has also learnt how to shot and had joined in the hunt at Sandringham at Christmas. This is however rare as she often accompanies the Queen for the task of beating and retrieval. Sophie has also became interested in the sport of clay- pigeon shooting. More recently Sophie has became interested in carriage driving.
