Remarkable Family Resemblances
Perhaps one of the greatest abilities of a royal family is that the public come to view them as part of their own family and like all family members we like looking at individual members and noting where they inherited their facial features and other characteristics. Of course we are fortunate that the British Royal Family and their various extensions are the most photographed family in history. But all family's are formed from various trees and our knowledge of the extended family of the Bowles - Lyons and the Cavendish - Bendicks is limited. This article attempts attempts to examine the physical features of HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex by looking at the various family members and features. This is a tedious operation and open to various sorts of problems and inevitable errors, for which I apologise for
. Many people who have met Prince Edward comment upon his gray blue eyes. Unknown to many, Edward's left eye is partially green. The bluish- gray colour is inherited from HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. The green part is unkn own. Facial, Prince Edward resembles HM The Queen remarkably. He has her chin, ears, nose and mouth. Many would have noticed that they have the same grin.
However it can be presumed that as Edward ages he will start to resemble the Duke of Edinburgh more. I make this guess by looking at the way Princes Charles and Andrew are aging. You'll notice that all the British Princes have sunken eyes like their father. Prince Charles already has started looking like his father in features, and it is likely that Edward will follow suit. All three men have inherited their father's baldness, although in various degrees. Many people have commented upon the Windsor head shape and although I find the shape of the Windsors' heads nothing unordinary, you'll note from this artist sketch in the 1920's that the shape of the royal men is a long family trait.
Prince Edward is approximately 6 foot in height. Although the Queen is of quiet a normal height, her children have inherited their grandfathers' and father's height. Edward has a slighter build than his brothers and father. In this way he notably resembles HM King George VII, his maternal grandfather and his grand-uncle, HRH The Duke of Windsor, in that they all have small waists and broad shoulders.
