Edward visits the Royal Wessex Yeomanry

HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex was in North Devon to hand our campaign medal for service in Iraq to soldiers of The Royal Wessex Yeomanry.

HRH Prince Edward was in North Devon on the 24 September 2005 to present campaign medals to territorial army soldiers from The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, who havereceived campaign medals for service in Iraq.

As members of D (Royal Devon Yeomanry) Squadron, the majority were mobilised in August 2004 to form part of a 43-strong contingent from the four Squadrons of The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, augmenting the Regulars of The Royal Dragoon Guards Battle Group in Basra.Others volunteered for different phases of Operation Telic in Iraq over the last two years.The mobilised Reservists returned in May this year having been involved in number of skirmishes but, thankfully, with no casualties.

Those who received medals from the Earl of Wessex included WO2 Sean Grice, 43, from Barnstaple; Staff Sergeant Lee Collinson, 40, from Barnstaple; and Lance Corporal Paul Hackman, 22, from South Molton.  Others who were not present but who will receive their medals at a later date include Captain Adrian Pegler, 44, from Barnstaple; Sergeant Rikki Thake, 40, South Molton; Lance Corporal Graham Harris, 25, from Barnstaple; and Lance Corporal Pete Armstrong, 36, from Barnstaple
